Limonite is one of the principal iron minerals, and is of many shades of brown, generally stalactitic, grape-like, dense or loose lumpy or even earthy. As it is a weathering product of iron-bearing minerals, it is impure in composition and highly variable in water content. The hardness varies with the mineral form, it is non-magnetic, with a density of 5.24 g/cm3 and a melting point of 1565 °C. Although the iron content of limonite is lower than that of magnetite and hematite, it is also an important iron ore because it is looser and easier to smelt.
Classification of limonite
It can be divided into two main categories: skarn limonite and high-silica limonite. Silica limonite accounts for 66% and high-silica type limonite accounts for 34%. Silica limonite mainly consists of limonite, hematite and quartz, while high-silica type limonite mainly consists of limonite, hematite, acanthite and quartz. There are as many as 26 mineral species in limonite, but mainly limonite and quartz, with little other content.
The general flow of limonite magnetic separation process is silo ---- feeder ---- jaw crusher ---- jaw fine crusher ---- ball mill ---- spiral classifier ---- magnetic separator and so on, which mainly includes feeding equipment, crushing equipment, grinding and classifying equipment, and magnetic separation equipment, and the intermediate machines can be connected by conveyor.
