Sulphide iron ore deposits are mainly formed under endogenous action, and the crystals are commonly hexagonal, octahedral and pentagonal dodecahedral. Sometimes it is golden yellow, sometimes brassy, and has a bright yellow metallic luster. Specific gravity 4.95-5.20, hardness 6.0-6.5, streaks of greenish-black, brittle, easily broken by knocking, broken surface is uneven. When burned, it has blue flame and pungent sulphur-yellow odour, and should not be stored in open air or poorly ventilated warehouses.
Uses of Sulphurous Iron Ore
1, the most important use is the production of sulfuric acid and sulfur. Sulphuric acid is the largest consumer of sulphur, and more than 70% of China's sulphur is used in sulphuric acid production.
